I have requested my frie'nds, Messrs. Barren, Forbes, & Co. to forward to you the drafts on the custom-house at Guaymas, and have to beg the favor of your doing all you can to get the claim adjusted. I am compelled to proceed, on duty for the Government, to the Oregon,, else, I should hasten to Mexico, to endeavor to make some settlement of this, to me, important claim. I put the greatest trust in your getting the claim ac- knowledged at once from its apparent equity. Yours most truly, WILLIAM A. SLACUM. TO POWHATTAN ELLIS, Esq. Mexico.
