The Kanch Mahal at Amber
The ruined city of Amber, adjoining Jaipur, was once the capital of its district, but has been practically deserted for tivo centuries and has fallen into decay and desolation. Yet its crumbling and tenantless palaces still retain signs of departed glory and exhibit some of the most exquisite specimens of Indian art in inlaid icork, mosaic panels, and the mirror and spangle decorati^'e design for which Jaipur is renowned.
