17. Gyf hwā wyle his willan dōn, hē gecnǣwð

be þǣre lāre, hwæþer hēo sī of Gode, hwæþer þe ic be mē sylfum spece.

18. Sē þe be him sylfum sprycð sēcþ his āgen wuldor; sē þe sēcþ þæs wuldor þe hyne sende, sē is sōþfæst, and nis nān unrihtwisnys on him.

19. Hū ne sealde Moyses ēow ǣ, and ēower nān ne healt þā ǣ? Hwi sece gē mē tō ofslēanne?

20. Þā andswarode sēo menigeo and cwæð, Dēofol þe sticað on; hwā sēcð þē tō ofslēanne?

2I. Đā andswarode sē Hǣlend and cwæð tō him, Ān weorc ic worhte, and ealle gē wundrigeaþ.

22. For ðȳ Moyses ēow sealde ymbsnidenesse; næs nā for þī þe hēo of Moyse sȳ, ac of fæderon; and on restedæge gē ymbsnīðaþ mann,

23. þæt Moyses ǣ ne sȳ tōworpen; and gē belgaþ wið mē for ðām þe ic gehǣlde ānne man on restedæge?

24. Ne dēme gē be ansȳne, ac dēmað rihtne dōm.

25. Sume cwǣdon þā ðe wǣron of Ierusalem, Hū nis ðis sē ðe hī sēceaþ tō ofslēanne?
