NOTE
The Hebrew translation of the Shemonah Peraáļģim of Maimonides, despite its importance in the history of Jewish ethics during the Middle Ages, has never been presented in a critical edition. This Dr. Gorfinkle has done in the present volume with acumen and with much diligence. To this purpose, he has examined carefully a number of manuscripts and printed editions. He has also compared the Arabic original throughout, and has given in the notes his reasons for accepting or rejecting certain readings. In order that the work may be accessible to readers who do not understand Hebrew, an English translation has been added.
