It is in fact said in the book of Jeremiah that he appointed men over the chambers for treasure ("treasures of the treasuries" LXX) and these as has been seen, commonly contained a library at this time. The various letters quoted verbatim point also to an archive at Jerusalem while the sacred books which were read (13:1) and the organized singers point at least to the small liturgical collections common in Assyro-Babylonian temples.
