Anna Akhmatova
Anna Akhmatova was at one time identified with the Acmeist group, which represented a reaction against symbolism. The work of this talented lyricist is notable for its classic tendency and an insistence on purely personal themes. Her tenuous verse delights in a sophisticated simplicity. The first of her four slender volumes appeared in 1912.
