Sclater, Philip Lutley, M.A. (fellow 1853–62), Corpus Christi Coll., Oxon, 1851, from Winchester Coll., F.R.S., Ph.D. Bonn, i860, secretary to the Zoological Society of London since 1859, private secretary to Rt. Hon. George Sclater-Booth (president of the Local Government Board) 1874-7, author of numerous works on zoology, editor of the Ibis, a Journal of Ornithology, went the Western circuit, a student of Lincoln's Inn 30 April, 1851 (then aged 21), called to the bar 6 June, 1855 (2nd son of William Lutley Sclater, Esq., of Hoddington House, Hants); born 4 Nov., 1829; married 16 Oct., 1862, Jane Anne Eliza, youngest dau. of Sir David Hunter-Blair, Bart., of Blairquhan, N.B. (see Foster's Baronetage).
