A'Beckett, Arthur William, editor of the Glow-worm 1864–7, on the staff of Punch, author of Fallen among Thieves and other works, private secretary to parliamentary under-secretary of state for war (Earl of Morley) 1882–3, a student of Gray's Inn 13 June, 1877, called to the bar 3 May, 1882 (3rd son of late Gilbert Abbott A'Beckett, of London, and of Gray's Inn, bar.-at-law, a metropolitan police magistrate); born at Hammersmith, 25 Oct., 1844; married 17 Feb., 1876, Susannah Frances, eldest dau. of late Forbes Winslow, M.D., D.C.L.
