AMNER, JOHN (d. 1641), was appointed organist of Ely Cathedral and master of the choristers in 1610. He took the degree of Mus. Bac. at Oxford in 1613, and seems to have been in holy orders. He composed several services and anthems, the autographs of which are presented in the cathedral library at Ely, and other manuscript compositions by him are in the British Museum, and the collections at Peterhouse, Cambridge, and Christ Church, Oxford. In 1615 he published a collection of ‘Sacred Hymns ... for Voices and Viols.’ He died at Ely in 1641.
