BYTHESEA, JOHN (1827–)

Born June 15, 1827 : son of Rev. G. Bythesea : educated at Grosvenor College, Bath : entered the Navy, 1841 : Rear-Admiral, 1877 : gained the V.C. in the Russian war, 1854–5 : saw service in China and elsewhere, in command of various vessels : Naval Attaché at Washington, 1865–7 : Consulting Naval Officer to the Government of India, 1874–80 : C.B. : C.I.E.
