Sydney Parkinson
(1745–1771)

Scottish botanical illustrator and natural history artist; employed by Joseph Banks as botanical illustrator during James Cook's first voyage of exploration, on board HM Bark Endeavour in 1768. He made nearly a thousand drawings of plants and animals on the voyage, including some of the first illustrations of Australian flora and fauna, and died of malaria and dysentery on the return trip.
