Luís de Camões
(1524/1525–1580)

name is anglicized as Camoens; considered Portugal's greatest poet for his mastery of verse that has been compared to that of Homer, Virgil, Dante and Shakespeare; wrote a considerable amount of lyrical poetry and drama though is best remembered for his epic work Os Lusíadas.
