Joseph Priestley
(1767–1852)

Canal manager who published a comprehensive account of the British waterways
Joseph Priestley was the manager of the Aire and Calder Navigation in England during its most prosperous period. He lived in Wakefield and had his office at the old Wharf there. He also worked on the Wilts and Berks Canal. His father, also Joseph Priestley, superintended the construction of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
