Lucius Cassius Dio
(2nd century – 3rd century)

A Greek statesman and historian under the Roman Empire who served as consul but is chiefly remembered for his 80-volume Roman History. His Greek name, formerly often used in English, was simply Dio or Dio Cassius (Δίων Κάσσιος, Díon Kássios); his exact Latin name is uncertain: it may have contained one or both of the names Claudius and Cocceianus.
