RAVEL, MAURICE (1875-), French musical composer, was born at Ciboure, France, March 7 1875, and received his musical education at the Paris conservatoire, under Fauré, Pessard and Bériot. His compositions include, besides songs, pianoforte music, and chamber music, the Scheherazade overture (1911), Rhapsodie Espagnole (1907), and the one-act opera L'Heure Espagnole (1907), first produced at Covent Garden in 1919.
