VRATZA, the capital of the department of Vratza, Bulgaria, on the northern slope of the Stara Planina and on a small sub tributary of the Danube. Pop. (1906) 14,832. Vratza is an archiepiscopal see and the headquarters of a military division. Wine, leather and gold and silver filigree are manufactured, and there is a school of sericulture.
