Yves Bonnefoy

Yves Jean Bonnefoy[1] (June 24, 1923 – July 1, 2016) was a French poet, art critics and translator. Bonnefoy published many of translations into French, mainly poems of William Shakespeare. He was born in Tours, France.

He was a professor at the Collège de France from 1981 to 1993. He was the author of several works on art, art history, and artists including Miró and Giacometti.[2] The Encyclopædia Britannica presents him as ″perhaps the most important French poet of the latter half of the 20th century″.[3]

Bonnefoy died in Paris on July 1, 2016, aged 93.
