XQuartz

XQuartz is software made by Apple Inc. It takes a not-specific-to-Mac program – one that is compatible with a standard called X Window System or "X11" – and allows it to be displayed on the Mac. The functionality is only limited to the actual Graphical User Interface the user sees, nothing more.
