Whooping crane

The whooping crane (Grus americana) is a bird in the Gruidae family. It is the tallest bird in North America, and can live for over 20 years.

There have been a number of attempts to help the bird population to increase, with some success.

People who shoot the birds risk prosecution. a Louisiana man was sentenced to 45 days imprisonment and a $2500 fine after pleading guilty to a killing in November 2014,[1]
