West Side Story (1961 movie)

West Side Story is a 1961 American romantic crime drama musical. It is an adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical play of the same name. Natalie Wood plays Maria. Rita Moreno plays Anita. Robert Wise directed the movie. It is based on the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.

This movie won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Sound and Best Director. It also won many other awards.
