Treaty of Nanking
The British forced China to sign the Treaty of Nanking after China l the First Opium War in 1842. The treaty stated that China had to give Britain Hong Kong, 2 billion dollars cash, and open 5 port cities. This led China to give up sovereignty to Europe.[1]
