Terry Sanford
James Terry Sanford (August 20, 1917 – April 18, 1998) was an American politician and educator. He was the United States senator of North Carolina. He served as senator from 1986 to 1993. He was a Democrat.

Sanford ran for President of the United States in 1976, but lost the primary to Jimmy Carter.
Sanford died in Durham, North Carolina from esophageal cancer, aged 80.
