Symbolic anthropology

Symbolic anthropology or symbolic and interpretive anthropology is the study where cultural symbols can be used in society. Important figures of this study are Clifford Geertz as founder of interpretive anthropology, Max Weeber, Mary Douglas, David M. Schneider and Victor Turner.

A postmodern turn is also highlighted.
