Selma Barkham

Selma Huxley Barkham, OC ONL, (née Huxley; 8 March 1927 – 3 May 2020) was an English-Canadian historian and geographer. Her works focused on the maritime history of Canada and of the Basque Country.[1] She was born in London.

In 1981, she was awarded the Order of Canada for her work. A whaling port she discovered in Red Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador was declared a National Historic Site of Canada (1979) and a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (June 2013).

She was made an Officer of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2015.

Barkham died on 4 May 2020 in Chichester, England at the age of 93.[2]
