Rufst du, mein Vaterland
"Rufst du, mein Vaterland?" ("Do you call, my Fatherland?") was the national anthem of Switzerland from 1848 to 1961. In 1961, Switzerland changed their national anthem to the Swiss Psalm. It was sung to the tune of God Save the King, the British national anthem. The german lyrics were written in 1811 by Johann Rudolf Wyss.[1]

Rufst du, mein Vaterland? |
Do you call, my Fatherland? |
Call'st thou, my Fatherland? |
Riefsch du, mis Vaterland |
Da, wo der Alpenkreis |
There where the circle of the Alps |
There where no Alp-bound |
Do, wo dr Alpekreis |
Nährst uns so mild und treu, |
You nourish us mild and true, |
Nährsch uns so mild und treu,
Sanft wie der Alpensee, |
Gentle like the alpine lake, |
Nährsch uns so mild und treu,
Und wie Lawinenlast |
And like avalanche's load |
Nährsch uns so mild und treu,
Frei, und auf ewig frei, |
Free, forever free! |
Free and for ever free! |
Vaterland, ewig frei, |
Free and for ever free! |
But where peace smiles, |
Doch, wo dr Fride lacht |
