Quantum number
The set of numbers used to describe the position and energy of the electron in an atom are called quantum numbers. The tally of quantum numbers varies from system to system and has no universal answer.
Four quantum numbers can describe an electron in an atom completely:
- Principal quantum number (n)
- Azimuthal quantum number
- Magnetic quantum number
- Spin quantum number (s)
