Parasite (2019 movie)

Parasite (Hangul: 기생충; Hanja: 寄生蟲; RR: Gisaengchung) is a 2019 South Korean black comedy thriller movie directed by Bong Joon-ho, who also wrote the movie's story. The movie stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, and Park So-dam.

Parasite had its world premiere at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival on 21 May 2019, where it became the first Korean movie to win the Palme d'Or. It received positive reviews from critics.[1] It also made $131 million worldwide, becoming the third highest-grossing movie in South Korea.[2]

At the 92nd Academy Awards, the movie earned six nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best International Feature Film, winning all three categories.[3] At the 77th Golden Globe Awards, the movie won the award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Parasite is the first non-English movie to win an Academy Award for Best Picture.[4]
