NIMBYism

NIMBYism, an acronym of Not In My Backyard, is a characterization of opposition to certain developments on grounds of fears that property values will fall, crime will skyrocket, there will be vast pollution, etc if the project is approved and completed.

Projects that are often subjected to NIMBYism include power plants, certain affordable housing developments such as mobile home communities, special needs housing like group homes and assisted living facilities, commercial buildings, etc.
