Max Berrú

Max Berrú (June 5, 1942[1] – May 1, 2018) was an Ecuadorian-Chilean singer and musician. He was one of the two founders of Inti-Illimani and sang the band's famous song "Viva Chile!". He was born in Cariamanga, Loja Province.

President Ricardo Lagos awarded him with the "Orden al Mérito Docente y Cultural Gabriela Mistral" in 2002. He owned a restaurant called Mitad del Mundo ("Middle of the World"), in reference to his Ecuadorian origins.

Berrú died in Santiago de Chile on May 1, 2018 of multiple myeloma at the age of 74.[2]
