The incinerator was built in the 1970s. It is part of a system for district heating, Klemetsrud energigjenvinningsanlegg.

The 'Klemetsrud crossing' (Klemetsrudkrysset) is a point of reference in the area.[1] It has an exit ramp from European route E6's northgoing lanes. The 'Ryen crossing' (Ryen-krysset) is 6 km from Klemetsrud.[2] European route E6 goes thru Klemetsrud.

The name Klemetsrud comes from the farm, Klemetsrud gård. As of the 21th century, Klemetsrud is still also a school district.

History

There has been farming in the area, at least since the Middle Ages.

The main road between the settlement Enebakk (in Akershus county) and Galgeberg (now in Oslo), has traditionally been Enebakk road (Enebakk-veien). Klemetsrud is between those two places. The road goes to a church that was likely built before year 1200, Enebakk church.[3]

In 1867, the farming village got its school building, Klemetsrud skole.

The Church of Norway built the local church in 1933, Klemetsrud kirke.

The village used to be in Akershus county. In the 20th century, the area became part of the municipality of Oslo.
