Kasugayama Primeval Forest
Kasugayama Primeval Forest is a primeval forest in the eastern part of Nara City, Nara Prefecture.
It is 250 hectares large.[1][2]
It is the Chinju no Mori of Kasuga-taisha so nobody was allowed to hunt or log there[1][2] since 841.[3]
It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara".[1][2]
The site is in the northern temperate zone but it has many southern species that prosper there. It has a wide variety of species.[3]
It is especially unique due to being so close to a city[3]
