James Hormel

James Catherwood Hormel (January 1, 1933 August 13, 2021) was an American philanthropist, LGBT activist, and Democratic politician. He was the United States Ambassador to Luxembourg from 1999 to 2001 during the Bill Clinton presidency.[1] Hormel was born in Austin, Minnesota. He was the first openly gay ambassador ever nominated in the United States.[2]

Hormel died on August 13, 2021 in San Francisco, California at the age of 88.[2]
