Child Poverty Action Group

The Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) is a charity based in London that works to alleviate poverty and social exclusion. It was set up in 1965. Its first campaigns were around what were then called Family Allowances. It produces reports about poverty and children.[1]

Frank Field was Director of the Group from 1969–1979. Ruth Lister was director from 1979-1987.

It every year it produces books about the British social security system. They used to be called the National Welfare Benefits Handbook and now the Welfare Benefits and Tax Credits Handbook. 2022 was the 24th with that name.

It takes test cases to court, trying to change the law.

There is a group in New Zealand with the same name.
