ARPANET

The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) was an early packet switching network and was one of the first to use TCP/IP. It was made by the Advanced Research Projects Agency of the United States Department of Defense in 1969. It was the main network of a set that came to make up the global Internet.
