The 1984 Washington gubernatorial election was held on November 6, 1984. Incumbent Republican John Spellman ran for re-election to a second term, but despite Ronald Reagan's landslide re-election was defeated by Democrat Booth Gardner. Since Spellman's defeat in 1984, Republicans have been unable to win the governorship and thus beginning the longest gubernatorial streak in Democratic history. As of 2023, this is the last time an incumbent Governor of Washington lost re-election.
