For All the Dogs Scary Hours Edition is a reissue of Canadian rapper Drake's eighth studio album For All the Dogs (2023). It was released on November 17, 2023, through OVO Sound and Republic Records. It contains six additional tracks and is a continuation of his second and fourth extended plays, Scary Hours (2018) and Scary Hours 2 (2021), with the new tracks being appended to For All the Dogs on digital platforms.

Background

Only six weeks after the release of his eighth studio album For All the Dogs, Drake announced the Scary Hours 3 project on November 16, 2023.[2] The announcement was led by a trailer filmed at the Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto.[3] The video features a voiceover by Drake, in which he reflects on the motivation behind the creative process.[4] He clarifies that he is not fond of "lengthy disappearances for the sake of mystery" and states that he has not been in a similar "mental state" since the recording of If You're Reading This It's Too Late (2015).[5] All of the tracks were written and recorded in the five days preceding the release, meaning none of the material stems from previous For All the Dogs sessions.[6] He referred to the project as the "right thing" which was "happening on its own".[7] The instrumental versions of the songs on Scary Hours 3 were released on November 23, through Drake's website.[8][9]

Roisin O'Connor opined that "Scary Hours 3 shakes off some of the toxic sludge Drake has been wading through of late" with "Drake deliver[ing] some of his best bars in years over sumptuous, woozy beats" on "The Shoe Fits".[12] Clash's Shahzaib Hussain summarized that "Drake's recent output signals to a tangible fear of diminishing returns, and fading glory. How he reckons with that going forward remains to be seen."[10] Nadine Smith of HipHopDX called it "longer than its predecessors" and found that "almost nothing approaches the earworm potential of 'God's Plan' or the uncut menace of 'Wants and Needs'" as Drake "largely spits no-hook iPhone notes analogies over boom-bap beats".[11]
