Ratkovac, 'Ratkoc' or 'Ratkoci' (Albanian: Drinas), is a small village in Kosovo. The village is about 12 km (7 mi), by road, from the city of Gjakova, but only 2 km (1 mi) by geographical distance. The name Ratkovac means Place of a warrior in serbian, derived from the Serbian word rat, which means war.
99% of inhabitants of this village are ethnic Albanian and 1% are declared as minority, but speak Albanian as their only language.
History
The village was mentioned in the Ottoman defter of 1591 with 39 households.[2] According to the Ottoman defter of 1591, the inhabitants anthroponymy were mainly Albanian, Albanian-Slavic and few Muslim names: ' Gjin Pali, Kola Deja, Pre Baci, Prend Peca, Doda Pejo, Dida Lika, Prend Vuciq, Gjic Pali, Marko Deja, Pejo Lika, Bac Llapa, Bic Buca, Deja Buca, Gjon Petko, Mic Kola, Pejo Bici, Koka Pejo, Pal Deja, Biba Vuja, Deja Bici, Biba Koka, Kurd Hasani, Vasil Gjoni, Marko Mici, Murad Gjici, Gika Koka, Mark Gaci, Biba Gjini, Janko Gjini, Prend Gaci, Prend Pali, Tola Llapa, Gjin Baci, Kurd Gjici, Biba Gaci, Kola Stepa, Gjon Bici, Noja Pali '.[3]
