- 1850 – The Mecklenburgische Eisenbahngesellschaft opens the Rostock-Bützow-Bad Kleinen and Güstrow-Bützow railway lines in northern Germany.
- 1896 – The Pretoria-Pietersburg Railway, a predecessor of the Central South African Railways, is incorporated in London.
20th century
- 1903 – The Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad (later to become part of Chicago and North Western Railway) begins passenger train service to Casper, Wyoming.
21st century
- 2002 – The Shramjivi Express, traveling from New Delhi to Patna, India, strikes a sabotaged section of rail and derails at Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, killing 12 people. See: Jaunpur train crash.
