The Speaker chairs the legislature's rules committee and other political management structures.

The Speaker and Deputy Speaker are elected from among the Members of the Provincial Legislature and may be removed by a resolution of the legislature.[1] Their election and powers are regulated by Chapter Six of the South African Constitution.
