90's - A Middle Class Biopic is an Indian Telugu-language drama television series created by Aditya Haasan[2] and written and directed by him. The series was produced by Naveen Medaram [3] and Rajasekhar Medaram under the banner of Medaram Naveen Official Productions and Amogha Arts. It stars Sivaji, Vasuki Anand, Mouli, Snehal Kamath, Vasanthika, and Rohan Roy.[4] It premiered on ETV Win on 5 January 2024.[5] It received positive reviews from critics.[6]

Plot

In the heart of Wanaparthy, the 90's tale revolves around Chandra Sekhar, a dedicated government teacher, and his wife, Rani, who tirelessly manages their modest home. The couple raises their three children - Raghu Teja, Divya, and Aditya - amid the everyday struggles of a middle-class lifestyle.

Their lives echo the challenges of balancing dreams and reality, especially for the children, often left disheartened by the compromises demanded by their circumstances. Sekhar, fiercely devoted to his children's education, maintains a stern stance, believing in the transformative power of learning.

The narrative unravels as a poignant rollercoaster, delving into the spectrum of emotions that resonate within a middle-class family. It offers a compelling exploration of familial bonds, aspirations, and the intricate dynamics amidst the backdrop of a rapidly changing society. As each character navigates their unique journey, the series delicately interweaves hope, sacrifice, and the pursuit of a better tomorrow.

Reception

A critic from 123telugu.com gave the series 3.25/5 stars in their review and wrote that "90's is an engaging family entertainer encapsulating numerous nostalgia-inducing moments. Staying true to its tagline, the show serves as a middle-class biopic, replete with relatable and endearing scenes. The performances by Shivaji, Vasuki, Mouli, Vasanthika, and Rohan are commendable, portraying their roles convincingly. The storyline, while simple and direct, is presented in a heartwarming manner. However, the pacing tends to slow down in the middle sections, and the overall length could benefit from some trimming. Nevertheless, 90's makes for a recommended watch this weekend".[7]

Chatakonda Krishna from Hindustan Times gave the series 3.35/5 stars in their review and wrote that "90's web series will be relatable to many. It recalls memories and experiences, putting middle-class life in front of the eyes. It portrays elements like middle-class parents who want to make their children useful. Their children are afraid of the future, and they are attracted to school at an age they don't know. This is a perfect web series to watch with family. Although it seems stretched here and there, it is not boring; it flows smoothly".[8]

A critic from M9News gave the series 3/5 stars wrote that 90's is "A Lovely Nostalgic Trip" and stated "The film boasts a succinct cast, primarily focused on a family, where each character is meticulously selected. Overall, '90's' proves itself a show worthy of viewers' time".[10]
